We currently supply millions of homes and businesses across the country with gas and electricity. Join us and you’ll use your skills to maintain a range of mechanical equipment.

You’ll be required to undertake a range of duties on electrical and mechanical plant equipment including maintenance, fault finding and repair in accordance with appropriate safety standards, and with a view to minimise cost and increase safety standards. You’ll work towards eliminating risks and hazards by adopting and enforcing risk assessment and method statement techniques.

Whether you’re working in a team or on your own, you’ll have the confidence and capability to be responsible for your work In addition to your knowledge of electrical and mechanical maintenance work, its initiative enthusiasm and problem solving skills you’ll call on. You’ll also require excellent communication skills and a basic level IT skills to record and access data in an accurate and timely manner.

Although we’ll develop your skills and build on your experience, you’ll certainly need motivation, commitment and flexibility, alongside appropriate permission to drive in the UK and willingness to travel between sites. Your modern apprenticeship in an electrical or mechanical area and a City & Guild 232 or NVQ Level 3 in an electrical or mechanical discipline, are essential and will ensure you have all the right qualities needed to enhance your career and our service. Once fully competent, you’ll then mentor less experienced colleagues, and monitor progress of contractors.

Maintenance Delivery Electricity (MDE) is responsible for the continued safe and reliable operation of the electricity transmission network through the efficient maintenance of substation and overhead line assets. We have responsibility for on-site safety management, and for the commissioning and operation of new equipment on the transmission system. We have a team over 1000 engineers and craftspeople dedicated to "keeping the lights on", working within in a high safety and environmentally conscious workplace.
